Abstract

Stereotypes play a dual role in intercultural communication: they act
as cognitive shortcuts while simultaneously creating barriers to authentic understanding. This paper examines the prevailing cultural stereotypes within English and Uzbek societies and their impact on communicative effectiveness. By analyzing dimensions such as individualism vs. collectivism and high-context vs. low-context communication, the research identifies how preconceived notions shape interactions between these two distinct cultures. The study concludes that “cultural intelligence” (CQ) and the deconstruction of myths are essential for successful diplomatic, educational, and business exchanges between the UK/Western English speakers and Uzbekistan.
