Abstract

This article explores the role of self-confidence in foreign language learning
and its impact on speaking ability, motivation, and learner engagement. It argues that, beyond grammar and vocabulary, psychological factors significantly influence communicative success. Confident learners are more likely to participate actively, take risks, and improve their fluency. The study also highlights that low self-confidence can lead to anxiety and reduced speaking practice. Additionally, the importance of a supportive classroom environment and teacher encouragement in developing learner confidence is emphasized. Self-confidence is identified as a key factor in effective language learning and should be integrated into teaching practices.
