Abstract

This study examines the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in developing speaking skills among English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learners. It explores whether AIassisted practice enhances fluency or leads to learner dependency. Based on a qualitative review of relevant literature, the findings indicate that AI tools improve pronunciation, confidence, and fluency by providing immediate feedback and low-anxiety practice environments. However, excessive reliance on AI may limit learners’ ability to engage
in authentic communication and reduce pragmatic competence. The study concludes that AI is most effective when used alongside real-life interaction, ensuring balanced development of speaking skills
