In modern foreign language education, the development of sociolinguistic competence plays a crucial role in preparing secondary school learners
for effective communication in real-life contexts. Sociolinguistic competence enables learners to use language appropriately according to social norms, cultural expectations, and communicative situations. This study examines the effectiveness of Content-Based Instruction (CBI) as an innovative pedagogical approach for developing sociolinguistic competence among secondary school students. The research focuses on integrating subject-related content with language learning activities that promote authentic communication, cultural awareness, and contextual language use. Through the implementation of thematic materials, interactive tasks, and culturally relevant learning resources, students are encouraged to apply language in meaningful situations and develop sensitivity to social and cultural aspects of communication. The findings
suggest that Content-Based Instruction enhances learners’ motivation, improves communicative abilities, and strengthens their understanding of sociocultural norms in the target language. Therefore, the integration of CBI into secondary school English language teaching contributes significantly to the development of learners’ sociolinguistic competence and supports more effective language acquisition in contemporary educational environments.
