Abstract

This article examines the theoretical foundations of the sociology of public
opinion, its formation mechanisms and main directions. The theoretical and
methodological foundations of public opinion research, in particular, the
interrelationship of quantitative and qualitative methods, were considered. Also, the role of digital technologies and social networks in the formation of public consciousness and examples of international experience are presented. This direction studies the nature of
public opinion, epistemological and sociological approaches. In the epistemological approach, thought is seen as a way of reflecting reality.
