Abstract

Medicinal plants possess a broad spectrum of activity and are  widespread (cosmopolitan) across the globe, and are also included among the endemic
and cultivated plants characteristic of certain regions. Thistle (Onopordum acanthium)  grows and develops as a ruderal plant. In folk medicine, thistle is known for its anti inflammatory, cardiotonic, and anticancer properties. A literature review of the  geographic distribution, growing conditions, chemical composition, and therapeutic  activity of thistle revealed that this plant holds promise for further research.
