Abstract

This paper investigates the critical intersection between bilingual
communicative competence and intercultural pragmatics. While traditional linguistic models often treat bilingualism as the mastery of two distinct grammatical systems, this study argues for a more integrated approach that incorporates the socio-cognitive dynamics of intercultural interaction. By analyzing how bilingual individuals negotiate meaning in contexts where shared cultural norms are absent, the research explores the development of "emergent common ground." The findings suggest that bilingual communicative competence is inherently dynamic, requiring a shift from native-speaker norms toward intercultural pragmatic awareness. This integration provides a robust framework for understanding modern global communication and informs pedagogical strategies in foreign language acquisition.
