The Effectiveness of Duolingo and Artificial Intelligence Tools for LanguageLearning and Writing Development

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has significantly transformed language education by introducing adaptive learning systems, automated feedback, and personalized instruction. Among AI-powered language learning platforms, Duolingo has become one of the most widely used applications worldwide. This article examines the effectiveness of Duolingo and other AI-supported technologies in developing English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learners’ writing skills and overall language proficiency. The study discusses the role of AI in vocabulary acquisition, grammar improvement, learner motivation, and writing development. In addition, the paper incorporates both
international and Uzbek researchers’ perspectives on digital language learning. Findings indicate that AI-assisted tools positively influence learners’ writing performance, engagement, and autonomous learning when integrated with teacher guidance and communicative classroom practices.
