This article scientifically analyzes the role of the Councils of People's
Deputies in solving socio-economic, political and organizational problems in the regions and their transformation into the main link of local governance. The research covers the activities of local representative bodies, the effectiveness of parliamentary control, the system of working with population appeals, their participation in the comprehensive
development of regions and their importance in protecting the interests of citizens. The article also analyzes the problems encountered in the activities of the Councils of People's Deputies - such as insufficient practical experience of deputies, weak control mechanisms, shortcomings in the system of communication with the population, and limited organizational and financial capabilities. It is substantiated that the role of local representative bodies in solving problems in the infrastructure, employment, poverty reduction, environmental conditions, public utilities and the social sphere in the regions is important.
