Abstract

The increasing prevalence of neurodegenerative, cerebrovascular, and neoplastic  diseases of the central nervous system highlights the importance of establishing reliable  normative morphometric parameters of the brain. Modern magnetic resonance imaging  (MRI) provides high-resolution visualization of cerebral structures and enables  quantitative assessment of age-related anatomical changes. Knowledge of normal age associated variations in brain morphology is essential for differentiating physiological  involutional processes from pathological alterations. However, comprehensive data  regarding age-dependent morphometric characteristics of the cerebral hemispheres  remain limited, emphasizing the relevance of the present study.
