Abstract

This article analyzes the linguopragmatic features of Sayyid Badr’s
portrayal in the Baburnama and compares their rendering in the English translations by Annette S. Beveridge and Leyden-Erskine. The study focuses on evaluative vocabulary, pragmatic modality, cultural connotation, and the translation of courtlysocial relations. The analysis shows that Babur’s concise portrait creates a complex image through references to strength, graceful movement, artistic individuality,
companionship, and social proximity to the Mirza. The English translations generally preserve the main descriptive content, but they differ in representing implicit meanings and cultural-pragmatic nuances.
