INNOVATIVE APPROACHES TO DEVELOPING LEXICAL SKILLSIN FOREIGN LANGUAGE TEACHING

Abstract

Vocabulary acquisition constitutes one of the most critical dimensions
of second and foreign language learning. Despite its recognized importance, traditional approaches to lexical instruction — including rote memorization and decontextualized drilling — have demonstrated limited long-term effectiveness. This article examines contemporary, evidence-based innovations in lexical skills development, encompassing corpus-informed pedagogy, technology-enhanced learning environments, task-based lexical instruction, multimodal input, and socio-cognitive vocabulary learning strategies. Drawing on findings from applied linguistics and educational psychology, the paper evaluates the theoretical foundations and practical applications of each approach.
