Abstract

This thesis evaluates the impact of demographic factors on setting the retirement age, using Uzbekistan as a case study. Globally, population aging and increasing life expectancy pose a serious threat to the financial stability of pension systems. These trends are also observed in Uzbekistan, necessitating reforms to its pension system. This thesis analyzes recommendations from international organizations such as the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank, as well as opinions from local experts. The research findings indicate that increasing demographic burden, high informal employment, and insufficient contributions to the pension fund are intensifying
proposals for a gradual increase in the retirement age. However, this process must consider socio-economic consequences, the living standards of the population, and public opinion. This thesis deeply analyzes the impact of demographic changes on the pension system and provides recommendations for forming a sustainable pension policy.
