Abstract

This paper examines the channels through which the use of e-commerce platforms affects the competitiveness of small businesses. The study has two parts: a systematic review of empirical research by foreign and Uzbek scholars published in 2016–2025, followed by a comparative analysis of official statistics and platform data for Uzbekistan. Four main channels of influence are identified: costs, market reach, access to finance and information transparency. Platform dependence, the commission burden and counterfeit goods are found to reduce competitiveness. The paper concludes with recommendations for strengthening the competitiveness of small businesses on platforms in Uzbekistan.
