Abstract

This study presents a bibliometric analysis of scientific research concerning solar water desalination units operating on the humidification-dehumidification principle. The primary objective of the study is to determine the development dynamics of scientific publications in this field, identify leading research areas and author collaborations, and highlight promising technological solutions. The analysis focuses specifically on the design configurations of solar-driven humidification-dehumidification systems, the operational efficiency of humidifiers and condensers, heat recovery, multi-stage processes, and thermal energy storage using phase-change materials. The review of scientific literature indicates that air and water temperature regimes, heat and mass transfer, water production yield, and specific energy consumption are critical factors in enhancing the efficiency of these units. Furthermore, hybrid systems, advanced humidifiers and condensers, thermal energy storage, and energy consumption optimization are identified as promising avenues for future research. The analytical findings obtained serve to improve solar-powered desalination technologies and define priority areas for future scientific research.
