Abstract

Uzbekistan's current mechanism for protecting copyright online rests mainly on judicial, administrative and criminal remedies, with no instrument for stopping infringement quickly at platform level. Drawing on the Law No. LRU-42 of 20 July 2006 and its 2021 and 2025 amendments, the paper identifies three gaps — the absence of an intermediary liability regime, the lack of a copyright-specific notice-and-takedown procedure, and the unregulated status of text and data mining and generative AI training — and proposes concrete legislative amendments based on comparison with the United States, the European Union, China and Japan.
