Abstract

This paper examines the issue of assessing students’ speaking competence in foreign language education. Role-play activities are analyzed as an effective tool for evaluating oral performance. The study substantiates the didactic potential of role-play in diagnosing linguistic, sociolinguistic, and pragmatic competences, as well as in measuring the level of communicative proficiency. The paper also proposes assessment criteria for objective evaluation of students’ oral production within communicative contexts.
